Notes and Critiques

 Notes and Critiques

- "Tied down"

My inspirations for creating this work were the concepts of rejection, feeling stuck, masking, and the ocean. I used alcohol markers, paint markers, and colored pencils to try to achieve an eerie masking-like feeling, and I think this was the most successful part of my piece. I think now I would have done a lot differently, but I had very little time to make this piece due to an injury. If I had the chance, I would make the background much more detailed. In the original sketch, I had much more detail, inspired by the land of the dead scene in Coco. Overall, I think this piece came out very well, but I wish I had included more details.

-  Midterm review

I personally believe that my Drawing 3 experience has been pretty good! I have made so many friends, and personally, I have learned a lot. During the summer or at the beginning of school, I tend to get very bad art block do to busy schedules or no motivation, but this class has really helped with that. I find more joy in studying anatomy or techniques again! I have definitely gotten better at finding more block shapes to study different types of techniques and styles! This helped me with learning charcoal, pen, and overall helped my anatomy practice a huge amount! Although it is good to learn how to do this, it has definitely been my biggest struggle. I never really made an effort to try new techniques like charcoal or pure pen; I usually use markers, paint pens, pencil, and digital. To be honest, it's been so refreshing! It is insanely hard and frustrating, but it's given me more joy to remember that art can be anything you want! Overall, I would say I am most proud of my “Hunting Innocence” piece. Working with a pen, for some reason, actually brings me fear. I have horrible anxiety, so working with a tool that can make no mistakes was pretty challenging. I remember making my first huge mistake with the pen and getting so upset. I knew it would happen, and it was going so well! Until I just thought, “Or I can just restart.” This project helped so much with my art process; it taught me that nothing is ruined forever, it just may need a new version. My end product ended up being not only the best product out of all my attempts, but one of (if not) the best pieces I've ever made! I've never been able to look at my art and think “wow, this is amazing”, until now!
